When the body hurts and the head ignores it

At the risk of shocking more than one person, here is the substance of my thoughts on the psychosomatic relationship.

The body is the mirror of what we experience. Even in these smallest details, its manifestations are messages full of kindness towards us. Within this holistic thinking lies the fact that each element of who we are as humans is part of a whole. Our body as well as our emotions, especially when it seems to betray us, always does its job to help us find the fulfillment of our being.

Welcoming what is without judgment

The best thing we can do to harmonize our body with our mind is above all to recognize the validity and value of what happens to us. Ideally and quite simply: “I’m in pain, I become aware of it, I stop and I take care of it.”

Unfortunately, this behavior is rare.

The fear of illness prevails. While this is understandable, the consequences of this lack of acceptance impact our healing and our ability to maintain some power over what happens to us.

Recognizing this is the best way to establish cause and effect.

Just like this split tree trunk, the reality of what happens to us often involves organic causes, that is to say coming from the depths of our being. This often involves having to face buried fears.

These fears, which can be difficult to reason with, must be taken care of by elements such as gentleness, kindness, patience and gratitude.

When we feel a sense of gratitude towards our suffering body, we give it a beneficial respite.

I repeat myself on this subject often and yet I feel like I never say it often enough:

Giving ourselves love and recognition brings the same benefits as giving it to someone we love. If a child cries because he is suffering, we comfort him. It’s a human reflex. Why wouldn’t we do it for ourselves? And if we do, let’s think about the effects of this on our feelings. Relief , feeling heard, gratitude are some of the words that come to mind. We are capable of expressing our love to others, why should it be so difficult to express it to ourselves?

Self-love as an ally in our healing.

I am sure that if we could see the effects of our self-esteem on our brains, we would be much more inclined to develop our faith in psychosomatic healing.

Personally, I am fortunate to be able to marvel every day at the effects on performance, of an attitude filled with gentleness of heart. In the same way, when we suffer from various ailments, our ability to spread loving kindness towards our pain works miracles.
